Colleague Post: The disorder that I chose is separation anxiety disorder. Separation anxiety disorder is defined as an excessive fear of separating from a person or thing (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). People with separation anxiety often think the worst when away from person or thing they are attached to. If it is a person, they have to know their whereabouts, or they will think the person has died. In addition, they refuse to go out anywhere by themselves (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Physical symptoms of separation anxiety disorder includes nausea and dizziness. As an HSPP, I would suggest someone with separation anxiety disorder to take something with them to remind them of the person they are attached to. It could be a scarf sprayed with that person's perfume or a voice note on their phone letting them know that everything will be fine. References: American Psychiatric Association. (2013).
