2 Roles
I am a family advocate. The role associated with being a family advocate is assisting involved parties to settle any grievances such as custody, divorce, access and guardianship. Also, educating family members on family needs and systems. I learned the requirements of being a family advocate by undertaking a course in Law Enforcement Administration/Criminal Justice.
3 Role Problems
My status as a wife and a family advocate sometimes do conflict hence, the problems I encounter the most arise from the two statuses. For example, once I was to have dinner with my husband but I got a call from another family I was representing in court as their advocate to attend to an urgent matter. Sometimes it leads me to solve other families’ problems while I create more trouble in mine. Some possible ways to solve such a problem are: to ask an advocate friend for help, prioritize the activities but do them all and ignore formal engagements arising within family time. One time I ignored formal commitments on non-official time and this worked out well for me. We had a great time with my family and this enabled my clients to respect my leisure time. I would not do things any differently.
