PG&E and Southern California Edison (these are my two Choices for the Company Research and there both utility Companies)

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze both the vision statement and mission statement for various companies to determine how these statements guide leadership practices within organizations.

The vision statement reflects a desired future state worthy of pursuing, while the mission statement is what is done almost daily to eventually realize the vision.

In your assigned CLC groups, select two organizations, each with a vision statement and a mission statement. One organization should profess to practice servant leadership and the other should practice a standard leadership model.

Examples of well-known companies that practice servant leadership include Southwest Airlines, REI, and Aflac. In your CLC groups, conduct additional research to locate other companies that practice servant leadership.

Once your CLC group has selected two companies, write a 1,500-1,750 word analysis addressing the following:

Both the vision and mission statements for both companies.

A comparison of both the vision and mission statements of the two companies. Make sure to provide specific examples of similarities and differences.

A discussion of how the vision and mission statements affect the culture of each organization.

A description of the servant leadership principles or values that are explicitly or implicitly apparent in the vision and mission statements of the organization that professes to be servant-led.

An explanation of the principles or values expressed in the vision and mission statements manifested in each organization's public reputation, marketing tactics, treatment of its employees, etc. Provide specific examples to support your rationale.

A determination on whether each organization is living out the principles or values expressed in both their vision and mission statements. Provide an explanation to support your determination.

An explanation of revisions that would need to be made to the vision and mission statements of the organization practicing a standard leadership model should it adopt a servant leadership model.

An explanation of how the vision and mission statements of an organization can or should guide an organization's treatment of its employees and clients.

An explanation of how a Christian worldview perspective can inform management decisions or practices in the treatment of all stakeholders.

You are required to locate four articles that support your selected organization's vision and mission statements. Two of the selected articles must be peer-reviewed journal articles. PG & E is a utility company in the United States that is dedicated to providing natural gas and electricity. Its mission statement is to satisfy the energy demand, respect the environment, and collaborate at the local level for a more coordinated, cohesive, and cross-functional approach to solve customer issues promptly and continually make operational improvements (PG &E). In addition, its Vision is to be the leading Utility Company in the United States in the eyes of their customer, employees, and shareholders. Also, its goal is to have delighted customers, energized employees, and reward shareholders. Thus, through creativity and teamwork, it aims to increase the use of clean and renewable energy in America. 
South Airlines exhibited servant leadership and was established in 1967 to provide air travel services. Its mission is to connect people to what is important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. Further, its Vision is to be the world's best-loved, most efficient, and most profitable. In addition, southwest airlines promise to provide equal chances to learn and grow in a stable work environment with concern, respect, and a caring attitude in the organization. 
             Similarities PG&E and Southwest Airlines Vision and Mission.             
The mission of both companies is customer oriented and represents what they do to maintain their reputation and customer base. For instance, PG&E's mission statement is to satisfy the energy demand and respect the environment and collaborate at the local level for a more coordinated, cohesive, and cross-functional approach to solve customer issues promptly and continually make operational improvements, while that of Southwest Airlines is to connect people to what is important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. This means that the need of their customers comes first, and both are committed to the best outcome. In addition, the mission statement of both companies offers affordable services to their customers. Thus, they are cautious about the affordability and well-being of their customers while making a profit.
Further, both visions depict the company's future goal and what they desire to achieve. This helps the company track and evaluate daily activities. For instance, PG &E hopes to be the leading utility company in the United States, while Southwest Airlines aims at being the best-loved company while making a profit. 
Differences
PG& E's mission statement focuses on fulfilling customers' demands and satisfying the increasing need for electricity through innovation and climate cautious initiatives. At the same time, Southwest Airlines is more focused on customers' perceptions and comfortability. Also, PG&E's mission statement elaborates more on what they do, while Southwest Airlines' is short and clear. For instance, PG&E is cautious about climate change and its sensitization for people to use clean and renewable energy. At the same time, Southwest is more focused on getting people to their destination in a reliable, low-cost, and friendly environment.
Furthermore, PG&E's vision statement is focused on market competition and being the leading power company in the United States. In contrast, Southwest Airlines Vision statement is more customer oriented and their perception of their brand than the competition. It aims to be the best-loved airline, most efficient, and most profitable. 
How Vision and Mission Statement Affect Organizations Culture
A company's vision and mission statement affect an organization's culture positively or negatively. A clearly articulated vision helps attract the right and competitive candidates for the tasks and reduces employee turnover and productivity. For instance, to join a PG&E company, an individual ought to be very competitive, innovative, and cautious about climate change. In addition, it has approximately 23,000 who distribute energy and handle customer complaints. Thus, a well-articulated vision and Mission statement streamlines the entire work process as individuals know what is expected of them. Essentially, for one to work at Southwest Airlines, they must be customer oriented, empathetic, respectful, and friendly, as the mission and Vision statement insists on the friendly nature of the job. It aims to be the best-loved airline; thus, one has to be friendly. 
Southwest Airlines Servant Leadership
Servant leadership is a concept of management that primarily focuses on the growth of people in the community they belong. It is empathetic and essentially focuses on authority rather than power. Southwest Airlines displays the concept of servant leadership in its mission and Vision. It aims to be the world's best-loved airline rather than the most profitable or leading airline. Thus, as shown in the mission statement, it values people to connect people to what is important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. In addition, it cares about its customers and wants to be the world's best-loved airline. Finally, it creates a sense of trust among its customers, a characteristic of servant leadership.
