Developments and the Future of Applied Behavior Analysis Through the second half of this course, you have had the opportunity to trace the development of applied behavior analysis from the latter part of the twentieth century to the present. This assignment will offer you the opportunity to examine those developments and how applied behavior analysis continues to evolve while remaining rooted in its foundations in science and the philosophy of behaviorism. For this assignment, you will provide a long-answer essay response to each of the questions below. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has progressed over the years to become an intervention of everyday practice with people with autism and other developmental disabilities. Despite its universal applicability, ABA has, in the past, suffered criticism founded on its past use and some of its methods. This paper will expound on the applicability of ABA as well as the criticisms leveled against it following attacks leveled against it. It will additionally outline its continued evolution. This paper will examine some recent advances in ABA, provide an overview of the seven dimensions of ABA delineated by Baer et al. (1968), and present some projections concerning the discipline's future. Argument 1: Usefulness, Benefits, and Social Validity of ABA Usefulness and Benefits of ABA Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidence-based method of behavior modification to promote socially relevant behavior through measurable and observable action steps. In its original behaviorism principles, ABA emphasizes environmental determinants of behavior. A great strength of ABA is that it is an evidence-based intervention method, and its effectiveness has been proven through large trials and research activities. ABA is most commonly applied in treating autism spectrum disorder (ASD), wherein it is utilized in teaching basic skills such as communication skills, self-care skills, and social interaction skills (Cooper et al., 2020). ABA's great merit is that it has an individualized intervention plan for each subject according to their needs to apply highly effective individualized interventions.
