Consequently, several sensory input types are incorporated, enabling the input mass to be interpreted. The spinothalamic pathway is occupied in human pain perception since its lesions at any level produce enduring impairment of pain sensation. A major part of spinothalamic neurons reacts maximally to noxious stimulation. At the thalamic level, the pain pathway consists of two major termination sites: medial and ventrocaudal.
