Throughout the term you have explored the ways in which applied behavior analysis is grounded in practical and philosophical foundations of natural science. This week your readings and activities will prepare you to examine the ways in which that foundation continues to support professional practice in applied behavior analysis. For this discussion, review the Behavior Analysis | An Overview (Behavior Analyst Certification Board, 2018) video on areas of professional practice in ABA. Then, please create a brief scenario in which you imagine yourself as a behavior analyst who is developing an intervention to help an individual change a socially significant behavior by creating a simple system of reinforcement to increase a desired behavior. For instance, you might develop an intervention where time spent in-seat at school is reinforced with teacher praise or tokens or an intervention to improve productivity in a factory by offering incentives. For best results, keep your scenario simple!
Please respond to the following:
Provide a brief description of a simple behavior change intervention.
Describe a simple plan of reinforcement to increase the desired behavior.
Taking into consideration readings throughout the term on goals of science, philosophical assumptions of science, and the seven dimensions of applied behavior analysis, describe how the plan you are proposing is grounded in a scientific foundation.
Finally, describe the scientist–practitioner model and discuss how it will guide your hypothetical intervention.

Behavior Change Intervention
A third-grade student, Alex, has always been the center of my attention because I am a behavior analyst trying to help him improve on-task behavior during independent work periods. Due to getting carried away most of the time, he often leaves incomplete assignments and performs poorly academically. To address this problem, I will start implementing a simple token system that would reinforce Alex's focus.
Intervention
The intervention will involve setting a timer for every 10 minutes during independent work to remind children when they need to do their assignments and not anything else apart from class work. When the timer goes off, the teacher checks if Alex is on-task by working on his assignments, not talking with his peers, or daydreaming (Staddon, 2021). If he is on-task and not distracted, he can earn a token. At the end of each day, his tokens can be exchanged with different rewards selected from a menu, which may include items like extra recess periods, small toys, or favorite snacks.
Plan of Reinforcement
The reinforcement plan will begin by clearly defining the term on-task behavior, such as having eyes on the paper, reading without distractions, and maintaining a quiet environment. Such a specific definition of terminology would help Alex understand what is expected of him and foster consistency in reinforcement. A visual timer will be set at 10-minute intervals, giving Alex an achievable frame to stay focused and helping him slowly build his attention span. Whenever he carries out his tasks during each interval, Alex will get tokens that act as immediate positive reinforcers promoting this behavior (Risley, 2001). The tokens can be a physical reminder of progress, helping Alex monitor himself and find motivation. At the end of each day, he will trade these tokens for things like extra playtime or his favorite food snack. His motivation has to be retained by varying rewards given at the criterion ...
