Policy Paper Assignment Instructions
OVERVIEW
You will write a policy paper based upon relevant research. If you have a military background, you are encouraged to pursue some aspect of family and resilience that your experience has led you to believe change is needed. If you do not have a military background, you have been exposed to many different, relevant topics at this point in the course. Choose 1 and, after attempting to locate any current policies, design your own policy based upon your research. Possible examples include: you may recommend particular, research-based leadership practices that would benefit families in some particular area, or your research may lead you to conclude counseling should be mandatory for those left behind during periods of deployment.
INSTRUCTIONS
The Policy Paper Assignment must contain 4 distinct sections in the body (the main content section of the Paper) that must be used as headings:
- Introduction of Subject – This section must include an engaging, well-thought-out thesis statement that conveys the main idea for the recommended policy change.
- Research – This section must evaluate research indicating that improvement is needed. You must present evidence bearing on all sides of the policy. You must cite a minimum of 3 scholarly sources.
- Recommendation and Implementation – This section must explain your recommended policy change as well as implementation recommendations for the new policy. You must support your recommendations with evidence from the research.
- Conclusion – The paper must end with a strong conclusion. The concluding paragraph must restate your thesis, summarize your subpoints, and leave the reader with an interesting final impression.
Papers must be written using current APA format and must be 3–4 pages (not including Title Page or References page).

Introduction
The life of a military family is unique in various aspects, as it has to face several social and psychological challenges, which cause immense stress and may harm their emotional and psychological well-being. Military family resilience is a unique term associated with military personnel and their families as in entails their potential and manifest capacity to deal with events such as frequent separations, deployment, and relocation, which are the core characteristics of military life (Meadows et al., 2016). Research studies have identified the building blocks of a military family's resilience: a strong belief system, an organized family hierarchy, and meaningful, supportive, and productive communication (Wright et al., 2013). These components of military resilience facilitate a military family to offer resilience and provide a framework for future policymaking.
Even though a comprehensive definition of military family resilience is yet to be formulated, experts have identified multiple dimensions and pathways that can reinforce a military family's resilience capacity. The use of unique ways to address the issue of military family resilience is mandatory due to the growing incidence of psychological and physiological problems, including brain injuries, depression, and posttraumatic stress (Meadows et al., 2016). One of the possible ways to increase military family's resilience to the military mode of life is streamlining the effective communication process to facilitate open emotional expression and provide a platform for
