In this assignment, you will play the role of a behavior-consulting intern. You are working as a behavior consulting intern for Acme, Inc. Your company is taking on a new client, Shoreside Community-Based Residential Facility. You will create a Kaltura video presentation of a PowerPoint addressing the following scenario.
Scenario: Shoreside Community-Based Residential Facility
Shoreside would like your company to provide consultation in their unit for adults with traumatic brain injury. Shoreside management and staff have expressed a concern over increasing rates of disruptive behavior during community outings and have had little success with their current interventions. They believe they may need assistance with staff training and behavior management techniques.
The company uses some Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with their clients but has never used ABA at an organizational level. The Director recently learned about Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) and wants to know more about how basic concepts of ABA could be used at Shoreside. The Director of Shoreside believes this would be an effective way to address the problems within the organization.
You have been tasked with conducting a preliminary assessment using the first few steps of the problem-solving model: Pinpointing and Measurement, as well as providing an overview of what the process will look like at Shoreside. Your manager has asked you to make a presentation to management and staff to provide more information about OBM and how fundamental principles of behavior can be used in the organization. Additionally, Shoreside is skeptical that the same principles they use with their clients could be applied to staff within the organization.
Using what you have learned about OBM and fundamental principles of behavior, you must create a PowerPoint presentation (minimum of 12 slides) consisting of the following, and present it via a Kaltura video recording:
Provide an overview of Organizational Behavior Management (OBM):
Define and describe OBM.
Identify and describe at least one specific application of OBM that is applicable to the above organization.
Provide an overview of the problem-solving process:
Describe the steps of a behavior analytic problem-solving model for organizations according to Daniels (2016).
Identify the role that individuals within organizations hold in relation to the successful planning and implementation of interventions.
Describe how problems are prioritized and addressed.
Define and describe fundamental principles of behavior and provide examples of how this is applied on an organizational level. Use non-technical language, when possible, so that all those attending the meeting understand your discussion:

Overview of Organizational Behavior Management (OBM)
Organizational Behavior Management, or OBM, is a branch of Applied Behavior Analysis that uses the behavioral sciences to enhance organizational performance and results. Whereas traditional ABA tends to concentrate on transforming the client's behaviors, OBM focuses on the behaviors of employees and administrative professionals to create systems to foster ultimate organizational success (Daniels, 2016). OBM is based on the applied sciences of human behavior and draws heavily on measurable results, systems of reinforcements, and the provision of performance feedback.
In Shoreside, introducing the OBM using practical interventions such as Behavioral Skills Training (BST) is possible. This involves step-by-step instruction, modeling, role-playing, and feedback to teach the skills needed to better manage the clients' behavior during trips out of the facility (Daniels, 2016). For instance, if the staff is not responding consistently during incidents in the community, BST can be applied to standardize the responses, give them more confidence, and have the assurance that the interventions they use are evidence-based.
Problem-Solving Process in OBM
Daniels's (2016) problem-solving model of behavior analysis is the basis for implementing OBM strategies. This model starts at the stage of pinpointing, which is identifying precise behaviors to increase or decrease. Pinpointing provides clarity and specificity so everyone can understand and observe the same target behaviors. The measurement step follows after the behaviors have been identified, which encompasses how the behaviors will be monitored and measured reliably.
Having established behaviors and measured them, the next step is in the realm of feedback and consequences, where performance is provided in the form of objective data, and consequences are modified to promote target behaviors. Evaluation is the last stage, whereby outcomes are monitored constantly to measure the efficacy and sustainability of interventions. In this consulting stage at Shoreside, the concentration will once more stay at the beginning stages of identifying and measuring, foundational to establishing the ground upon which all subsequent interventions will depend.
Organizational Roles in Planning and Implementation
Application of the OBM strategies is not exclusively the role of consultants or behavior analysts but is dependently active at all company levels. Leadership is also crucial in providing the necessary resources, support, and strategic vision to establish the practices of OBM in the day-to-day running of the business. Supervisors play a pivotal role in the field's implementation by often being responsible for gathering performance data, giving feedback, and reinforcing new employee skills.
Frontline workers are the key to the success of any intervention. Their inclination to change practices and adopt new behaviors is essential. Consultants, including myself, play the role of facilitators in this process. We assist the company by using scientific knowledge, planning the interventions, and facilitating the implementation so that it is practical and ethical.
