Psychology professionals use models, or paradigms, to assess and treat psychopathology. Different models incorporate different principles and techniques of treatment.
For this assignment, you will come up with a case scenario (or use one of the provided ones from Course Resources or your textbook). Then, you will use the Unit 3 Assignment Template to write a 3-5 page paper, by applying the different models to the case scenario. After choosing your case scenario, fill in the different model areas with your understanding of how they could apply to your case scenario. Applying the case to some of these models may require you to use your imagination, adding possibilities to the information provided in the case scenarios. Pull in references from your textbook reading to help support your writing. When going outside your textbook for academic information, please stick with peer-reviewed sources from the Purdue Global Library.

Chosen Case Scenario
Identify your chosen case scenario. You can create your own case scenario or choose one through Course Resources and Course Documents, or choose one in your textbook (each chapter begins with case scenarios with the exception of chapter 2 on research.
The Biological Model
Consider any biological factors that could be influencing the psychological disorder like genetics, brain injuries, or other neuropsychology issues.
The Psychodynamic Model
Consider unconscious influences, early parent/child relationships, id/ego/superego effects, along with other psychodynamic applications.
The Cognitive-Behavioral Model
Consider maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that could be influencing the psychological disorder.
The Humanistic-Existential Model
Consider concepts that could apply like self-awareness, values, meaning, choice, and lacking unconditional positive regard.
The Sociocultural Model
Consider areas here like social labels, social roles, social connections, the family system, and other diverse areas of multicultural perspectives.
The Developmental Psychopathology Perspective
Consider an eclectic or integrative view here, utilizing developmental approaches to understanding the psychological disorder. Think about concepts like equifinality and/or multifinality.

Introduction
The present-day clinical science explains mental disorders using six complementary paradigms: biological, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic-existential, sociocultural, and developmental psychopathology (Valentino & Edler, 2024). The integrative syntheses that support developmentally sensitive, relationship-based formulations and early intervention, the paper below uses each model to a brief fictive case example. It is intended to demonstrate how each lens reorganizes the same set of symptoms, thus defining different but still parallel intervention plans that can lead to lifelong recovery.
Case Scenario
Jordan, a 29-year-old non-binary programmer, describes a two-year downward spiral into major depression with anhedonia, insomnia, and the presence of self-criticism that has dominated their life. Anxiety escalates during the code reviews, and alienates them from friends. The situation is complicated by four factors: a mild traumatic brain injury due to a bike accident eighteen months earlier, the remote work that replaced daily structure, a family atmosphere in childhood that ranged between praise and harsh perfectionism, and daily antiLGBTQ microaggressions by work colleagues.
Biological Model
Ouss (2024) demonstrates that the first alignment, among other factors, sows the first seed of the fronto-limbic network through experience-expectant critical periods; subsequent insults take the risk to a higher platform. Chronic stress also probably weakened Jordan’s emotion-regulation networks, and mild TBI made it easy to tip the balance towards glutamatergic imbalance. Residual plasticity can be reopened with enriched stimulation, which is why aerobic activity and mindfulness are used in combination with SSRIs to normalize neurotransmission. Since synaptic pruning is mediated by relational input, synchronized family/peer-intervention is also biologically recommended.
