The empirical literature on Lone wolf terrorists reveals that lone wolf terrorists tend to have mental problems, are illiterate, and are older compared to other terrorist groups. Lone Wolf terrorists use personal and political/ideological factors for their acts, where 80 percent of cases reported bear personal and political motives (Hamm & Spaaj, 2015). They often air their plan before action, and many of them engage in leakage conduct, such as posting their plans or threats on the internet (Hamm & Spaaj, 2015; Hamm, 2013). Lone wolf terrorism also includes freelancing on behalf of terrorist groups (Schmid, 2023). It has also been pointed out in the research that lone wolf terrorism is not on the rise, but the pattern has changed where the attackers target police/military forces, and they mainly use firearms (Hamm & Spaaj, 2015).
