Spiritual Growth
I am deepening my relationship with my creator through scripture study and prayers. For the last few years, I have been not been completely dedicated towards nurturing my spiritual wellbeing. I have either found myself too tired or too busy to read at least a verse of the holy book and to say a prayer. During this period, I have felt detached from my creator and emotionally empty. After conducting a thorough soul-searching, I have decided to amend my ways and return to my spiritual path.
I will strive to read the holy book and pray more often before I begin my day and when I go to sleep. I realize that being spiritually nourished makes one to feel calm and confident about whatever he or she does. I will try as much as possible to ensure that I follow the right path and ensure that I live according to the scriptures. I will always seek for divine intervention in any challenges that I face. Dedicating our troubles to our creator helps lessen the burden and gives one the hope to overcome them.
I will also nurture my spiritual development by enrolling in a prayer group, which will comprise of a dedicated team of spiritual members. We will form a schedule in which we will be occasionally meeting to read the scriptures, deliberate, encourage and help each other to grow spiritually. Through the team, we will also explore ideas of how we can help the society through charity events. The charity events will vary depending on the target group for our activities. For example, if in a given period we decide to help the elderly, our activities may revolve around visiting elderly homes and making some contributions to meet some of their basic needs. Therefore, in my spiritual growth, I aspire to become a dedicated person and positively transform other people’s lives.
Relational Health
I am focusing on having a positive relationship with everyone around me by seeking to understand their challenges and experiences. After a thorough deliberation, I realized that I had a poor relational health with the people around me. Most of the times I have found myself deliberating alone, which has increased my chances of developing psychological stress. I prefer handling my challenges alone without sharing with anybody else. This habit has made me to accumulate a lot of negative emotions because I usually suppress any emotions that I feel I cannot handle, rather than releasing them out.
The first approach I will use in improving my translational health is to try and see the beauty in other people. Seeing the beauty in others as a reflection of God’s wonderful works will help me see their positive side, rather than the negative sides. Unlike before, where I often focused on one’s outside appearance as the definition of beauty, I will focus on people’s inner self as such beauty is unfading, gentle and quiet. I will also try to prioritize the needs and perspectives of other people to allow me perceive the world in a different sphere.
I will learn to trust my close friends and relatives more. I will begin by identifying either a friend or a relative who I am closer to and the one I can trust more. I will often talk to the person whenever I am stressed. I will also try to develop physical, mental, and emotional support to the individual and to cultivate a more intimate relationship between us. Having someone to lean on will help me approach challenging issues with more confidence and zeal. Above all, I will strive to stay focused on my visions and goals. In my interactions, I will always strive to understand people based on how we interact and know how to handle them. Having high expectations from people who are not dedicated to the course is a recipe for disappointments.
Emotional Health
I am focusing on eliminating negative energy by remaining positive about everything that happens around me. I am sensitive to anything that happens around me and often find myself overreacting to trivial issues. The high sensitivity keeps exposing my vulnerability as I keep brushing shoulders with many people. My goal is to become a leader and successful leaders know how to handle their emotions. Despite the many challenges that they face, they always remain calm and through the calmness, are able to handle the challenges. Therefore, I will explore the several available options on how to improve my emotional intelligence.
One of the ways through which I will strive to boost my emotional intelligence is to notice what makes me sad, angry, or frustrated. I will then explore the different approaches I can use to handle such frustrating incidents. I will also learn to express my feelings in more appropriate ways. For example, instead of keeping quiet about something that bothers me, I will be open enough to let people know my feelings towards the event. I realized that keeping anger or sadness inside only adds to stress (Elkin, 2013). Therefore, I will always try to find ways to release the negative feelings.
I will also teach myself how to balance between work and play, and between activity and rest. Working continuously without taking some time off to relax or engage in some form of exercise makes one to accumulate a lot of stress, which may find their way out in form of emotional outbursts. Therefore, I will strive to lead a balanced life that not only includes work but also plenty of rest and exercise. Besides, I will formulate clear goals to ensure that I have purpose and meaning in life. I will figure out whatever is important in my life and focus on achieving it.
Physical Health
I will dedicate my efforts in ensuring that I eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, and exercise more for both my physical and mental wellbeing. Physical health depicts one’s mental health and therefore, I will strive to maintain good physical health by exercising healthy eating habits, plenty of rest, and exercise as noted above. As an initiative to the process, I have already done a substantial research on what to do and what to eat to lead better lives. The findings of my research note that a proper utilization of the simple and abundantly available resources can play a major rule in transforming one’s physical state.
One of the initiatives that I will take to boost my physical state is to drink more water and avoid sugary drinks. The body is mainly composed of water and staying hydrated is an important state for proper physical health. I will also reduce my consumption of junk food and instead focus on eating balanced diet and more fruits and vegetables. Junk foods only add fats and sugars into the body, which are difficult to disintegrate and can lead to various illnesses. Fruits and vegetables have natural vitamins and minerals that the body needs for proper functioning (Bhowmik et al., 2012). I will seek alternative foods for the unhealthy ones. For example, instead of chips for snacks, I will be feeding on apples and instead of French fries, I will be feeding on carrots.
Besides enrolling in a gym, I will also do some simple forms of exercises like walking, riding a bike, jogging around the neighborhood, doing push-ups, sit-ups, leg lifts, and stretching in the house. I will also try to tie my physical fitness exercises to relational health by engaging my family with kickball and going on hikes, which will help create memories and good habits. Since the body also needs rest to function appropriately, I will always ensure to have a good night’s sleep. Sleep allows the body to restore itself by allowing the cells to repair themselves. It also allows the brain to reboot in readiness for the next day’s activities.
