Effective structuring of multidisciplinary team collaboration is necessary to adequately manage a multidisciplinary team with effective and productive contributions from these disciplines but without the waste caused by misalignment (Broft & Pryke, 2019). The project will implement a Building Information Modeling (BIM) system to optimally coordinate among multidisciplinary members during the design development of the building. BIM integrates architectural blueprints, structural load calculations, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) designs, thus preventing architectural conflicts between structural beams, HVAC ducts, and others from being discovered only when construction is underway, and extra work is necessary. This is also coupled with weekly multidisciplinary coordination meetings on RMG to review and make decisions on ongoing progress based on the structured decision-making with the RACI matrix (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) (Tiovanen, 2017). Since multidisciplinary teams sometimes experience role ambiguity, a detailed work breakdown structure (WBS) will be utilized to demarcate the scope of the responsibilities that architects, engineers, contractors, and procurement specialists would handle. Furthermore, applying the Lean Construction methodologies (e.g., the Last Planner System (LPS)) would reduce workflow inefficiency by the scheduled tasks only, while the prerequisite activities are achieved first to reduce delays and rework. It also places special importance on interdisciplinary knowledge sharing. Since design integrity may hold the highest priority for engineers and architects and cost efficiency for procurement teams, in the context of design decisions, a collaborative decision matrix will be used in order to evaluate the design choices in terms of cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency, and long term operational sustainability (Othman & Youssef, 2021). This structured decision-making approach ensures the multidisciplinary team stays on a common goal: creating a cost-effective, high-quality, and compliant office building. Transdisciplinary Through the office building project transdisciplinary collaboration is incorporated in the office building project by team members co-creating solutions by integrating expertise in different disciplines instead of working in isolated silos. It effectively solves sustainability goals, energy savings, and modular construction innovation. As part of the project, co-design workshops will be held to develop trans-disciplinary teamwork based on the engineers, architects, energy consultants, and construction managers to brainstorm ways to advance energy conservation, construction material selection, and cost optimization. Throughout this, one specific application of transdisciplinary collaboration will be in designing a solar panel integrated roofing system (Fardous, 2024). Structural engineers, electrical engineering students, and sustainability experts will jointly evaluate roof load-bearing capacity, energy output efficiency, and financial return on investment. Additionally, innovative building technologies will be integrated into IoT-based smart building technologies to improve long-term resilience and operational efficiency.
