(U)INSIGHTS FROM THE OPERATIONS OVERLOAD AND THE PRINCIPLES OF WAR IN RELATIONS TO THE NCO COMMON CORE COMPETENCY (NCOCCC) OF OPERATIONS?
The NCOCCC of Operations is a set of operational skills for senior leaders to save lives and ensure that the operations team executes effective unified activities. The mission overload's objective was to prepare military operations and drive them towards clear, decisive, and attainable goals. The NCOs can refer to the objectives of OVERLOAD to understand that combat operations are designed to destruct the enemy armed forces and deprive them of the ability to fight back. In the process, the military troops learn that they need to act directly, fast, and economically to contribute to the purpose of the operation. Each of these operations needs to contribute to the strategic objectives. The OVERLOAD and the principles of war further educate the military that’s implicitly is needed to formulate clear plans with concise instructions to ensure easy understanding. Simpl simplicity helps the military successfully carry out operations because there is minimal room for confusion and misunderstanding. When other factors are equal, it is preferable to use simple plans and better understand and execute planning at all echelons. OVERLOAD was initially designed to help gain a lodgment between Seine and Loire Rivers. The objective was to drive Germans across the natural barrier of the river Seine. One of the principles of war is mass, which has been more thought of as offensive or defensive. In OVERLOAD, the concept of the logistical and engineering efforts was undertaken to achieve and maintain the mass. Mass is used to concentrate the war power's impacts at the most advantageous place and time and eventually achieve the decisive results. Achieving mass requires the synchronization of the abilities of the joint force. Mass often needs to be sustained to have the desired effects (Yinuo et al., 2014). Another principle of war is a surprise. Operations OVERLOAD has various elements of deception introduced in combat to present the aspect of surprise. The main objective of this principle is to strike the enemy when they least expected. It helps the commander redirect the balance of the combat power. As a result, the team can achieve success. The factors contributing to the surprise element include speed in the decision-making, sharing of information, and force movement, among others. The principle of surprise is interesting in OVERLOAD planning and execution. The deception plans were used to confuse Germans on the date and location of the allied invasion. Security is another principle of war explored during the OVERLOAD planning and operation era. Factors related to security failure have resulted in disaster on a large scale. Security is a principle meant to ensure there is no room to allow the enemy to acquire an unexpected advantage over the troops. Security makes sure there is freedom of action where the friendly vulnerability to hostile acts is reduced (Marr, 2018). The aspects of security result from the measure taken by the commanders to secure the forces. When the planning of staff and understanding the enemy tactics and doctrine, security is often enhanced. Although there is a risk to military operations, the principle of security is associated with prudent risk management. The security of the force increases. The friendly combat power and preserves the freedom of action.
