For organizations to stay ahead of upcoming economic and technological developments, they must incorporate change. Usually, organizational change is naturally chased since it is understood the transition could allow a business to avoid costly consequences of failure on several levels (Lewis, 2019). However, most organizations struggle with change management as the process is a complex and uncertain endeavor (Errida & Lotfi, 2021). Errida & Lotfi (2021) purported that numerous organizational change fails at approximately 60-70%, which raises sustained worries and curiosity about factors that can decline failures and surge the success of organizational change. This paper reflects on relationships between technological change and innovation, how they lead to organizational sustainment and an applicable change management model to remove barriers to technological change.
Relationship between technological change and innovation
Technological change and innovation are firmly interrelated as understanding the new technology and its effects helps to be innovative and execute it continuously. On the other hand, emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), have been on the front foot of speeding up product and service innovation (Prem, 2019). Notably, technology upgrade assists organizations in stepping up and simplifying the worker's operations and other people in general (Simplilearn, 2023). Organizations that tend to use AI more broadly and have a long history of experience utilizing AI achieve substantially greater innovation outcomes (Rammer, Fernández, & Czarnitzki, 2022). As a result, AI will continue to speed up the innovation process with the continued technological changes.
As innovation becomes more advanced, the higher the possibility of growing it has, which is where innovation management is involved. Technological innovation is the foundation of prosperity and growth; thus, it must be managed effectively (Western Governors University, 2022). Innovation management tells high-level organizations objectives to generate maximum value for the business (Western Governors University, 2022). Hence, to execute efficient innovation management, companies should insert the knowledge of an IT expert into their organizational strategy (Western Governors University, 2022). This process would allow top-level executives to make smart business decisions using the insights from the IT department and predict possible disruptors in the industry (Western Governors University, 2022). With innovation becoming refined over the years, the need for technology becomes more vital.
How technological change and innovation contribute to organizational sustainment
Generally, accurate revolution is associated with sustaining organizational change. Sustainable innovation leads to sustainable organizations as it might guarantee a competitive advantage, offer environmental benefits, and generate social wellness (Cillo et al., 2019). Businesses with effective technology and innovation also contribute to organizational sustainment as these approaches improve workers' morale by simplifying their work (Pattnaik & Jena, 2020). The company's productivity surges with improved morale as satisfied employees tend to perform high (Pattnaik & Jena, 2020). Since motivated workers are responsible for increased productivity, organizations enjoy sustainable and increased financial performance.
Moreover, technological and management innovation is crucial for sustainability. Management innovation can substantially inspire a company in a dynamic atmosphere (Zhang et al., 2019). It assists firms in several ways but is crucial in improving company productivity and performance (Zhang et al., 2019). Many top-level executives of companies tend to like management innovation, thus giving attention to organizing management innovation in different departments (Zhang et al., 2019). Besides, technological innovation enables companies to construct sustainable positions and attain environmental achievement that, in turn, configure high performance and profitability (Zhang et al., 2019). Hence, it is evident that technological change and innovation are essential tools in promoting organizational sustainment.
