Select a decision that Thomas is faced with. Research decision-making approaches and apply one approach to the decision. You will prepare a 2- to 3-page paper justifying your decision and describing the decision-making approach you used.

1. Locate three peer-reviewed articles in the CSU-Global Library on decision making.
2. Read each article and consider your own opinion of the issue.
3. Write a 2- to 3-page paper offering a decision based on the facts in this case. Explain the decision-making style you applied to this case.
4. Be sure to use effective written communication strategies to convey your ideas.

An organization with around 150 employees can be challenging for one person to oversee that all processes are running smoothly. Martin Thomas, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Devise Products Unlimited (DPU), should consider various things if he wants to change how things are done in his company. Micromanaging such a large manufacturing company is likely to cause problems since the individual cannot be everywhere at all the time. Thomas should learn how to trust the firm’s directors, managers, and employees. Thomas should apply the analytic decision-making style to overcome various issues that he is facing in operating DPU successfully.
DPU being a big firm, requires to have different functioning departments. The directors of various departments should report to the CEO. In addition, they should have managers and supervisors who should keep them in the loop when it comes to the production process. For example, when the firm encounters a product quality issue, Maria DeLuca, the director of quality, should be accountable. Even though Thomas identifies the need for changing DPU’s organizational culture, he should understand that it is a process that cannot take place within a short period (Community Tool Box, n.d.). In particular, to avoid leaders and workers’ resistance toward the implementation of the FISH! Philosophy, Thomas should have come up with a training session for employees. Besides, distributing copies of the FISH program and expecting positive outcomes after a month was an uninformed decision. Consequently, change is a process that takes time, and workers must be made to understand its importance before they accept to change their behaviors and how they do things.
The best thing about the analytic decision-making strategy is that leaders using it do not rely on what they know only to make decisions. Instead, they observe how things are happening, use facts, analyze the available data, and allow major stakeholders to participate in the decision-making process.
