A Summary of Building a Resume
A resume provides employers with prompt insights on an individual's professional. Employers use resumes to determine whether a person is fit for a specific position or not (Campbell, 2010). As such, it is essential to modify the resume and ensure that it is both applicable to the job advertised and the company.
Campbell (2010) explains that a resume should specifically include qualifications, skills, education, and job experience that makes a person an excellent candidate for a company's position. The information in the resume should be straightforward and concise. Also, the resume should not exceed three pages because employers take less time looking at all the resumes received (Dolan, 2019). Moreover, the resume should capture the employer's attention by being intentional. All parts of a resume help employers in understanding a person's professional background. Therefore, adequate time should be spent on making all sections associated with the job being applied. It is always important to proofread the resume and have it edited by an editor in the same industry.
The primary sections of a resume include contact information and name, objective or summary, educational background, professional experience, skills, volunteer work or achievements, and interests and hobbies. According to Campbell (2010), employers want to contact the applicant easily, especially when scheduling an interview or asking some questions regarding the application. Therefore, the header of the resume should include information such as the applicant's name, state/city, telephone number, email, and a link to a professional profile if applicable. Besides, the objective and summary section should contain an explanation about who the applicant is and why he/she is qualified for the position. The resume summary section describes the applicant's work experience, while the objective showcases the applicant's career goals. In most cases, the entry-level applicants or those switching their careers use objectives to describe their work experience. Besides, the education section should include the school name, school location, degree earned, the applicant's study area, the graduation year, achievements, relevant certificates, and GPA if applicable.
In the professional experience section, the applicant should highlight his/her experience associated with the role. Furthermore, the applicant should include skills that are associated with job roles. The skills include those that enable a person to enhance positive interactions and those learned through education or other job experiences (Campbell, 2010). For example, the skills may include attention to detail, conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving, fact-checking, copywriting, and word-press knowledge. Furthermore, if the applicant has relevant volunteer work or achievements, he should also list them. Also, the applicant should list interests and hobbies that are associated with the role.
Assessment of the Experience in a Practice Interview
Practicing for the interview familiarizes a person with the interview questions in advance. However, it is essential to note that companies and employees use various types of interviews. Therefore, the applicant should acquire information and familiarize himself with the interview questions before. For example, the interviews based on competency depend on an applicant's previous job experiences to prove, assess, and measure his ability with the job role his now applying (Thaventhiran, 2004). The applicant is required to respond to questions that display his work experiences. Interviewers use such questions to acquire an applicant's understanding of potential actions in their syndicate, thought process, personality, and technical, cognitive, and behavioral competencies. Besides, managerial interviews are based on aspects such as the applicant's administrative results and style (Rimmer, 2018). Managerial style comprises of how a person manages and interacts with subordinates, stress, situations, and colleagues. Besides, managerial results include an applicant's previous job failures, achie...
