There is much importance in understanding end-user needs in health information systems if you want to create a user-friendly system. There have been several studies that show if the clinicians are happy with the way the documentation is being asked on the survey the happier they are with the system they are using and more opt to use it. If different health information systems can understand the needs of the users compared to what is excepted then there would be a greater chance that the doctors and nurses could produce a great number for quality care. The reason why it is important is so you can have the right or correct data. “Doctors’ expectations congruency is the next significant determinant of their satisfaction. Contrary to most previous findings, nurses’ expectations and expectations congruency do not show a significant effect on their satisfaction. However, the needs congruency is found to significantly affect nurses’ satisfaction” (Karimia, 2015).

 

            For the system to be a success, people that create Health Information Systems should keep in mind the audience that will be using it. They need to ask themselves what is the expectation that is expected. The creators then need to be able to tweak the system to fit the needs of the clinicians. Administrators need to have the buying power to be able to give the clinicians the ability to understand and fix any problems that are needed. Companies that sell the system need to also explain to the buyer (hospitals) that they might need to buy the whole system to be able to create something that is changeable. 

 

            Yes, Health Information System does exist that are successful. Depending on the client that you have. There are many systems that are bought as they are systems. And some system you can buy al cart. Systems that are more user friendly and flexible with the needs of the client will be more successful.

  The importance of understanding end-user needs in the health information system is vital to system integration within the health ecosystem. For instance, health information systems integration and end-user understanding by the clinician can provide qualitative benefits in health care. As healthcare evolves from an individual doctor-patient relationship to a multidisciplinary team-based approach, the functionality of electronic health records to support collaboration between the teams proves to be crucial in a successful EHR implementation (Unni, Staes, Weeks, Kramer, Borbolla, Slager, Taft, Chidambaram, & Weir, 2017). Thus, complexity of health care decision making and fragmented or compartmentalized health data into silos reinforces the need for end-user understanding within the health information system.

     Meeting expectations is a key component of providing value-based care within the health care organization. As a matter of fact, end-users within the organization have different roles that contribute to increasing expectations that must be meet within the system. To illustrate, complexity of health care decision making and a general increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases reinforce the need for meeting end-user expectations and providing a standard medical language for health care clinicians. Evidently, system designers are tasked with ensuring clinician expectations are meet as a product of successful system implementation within the health care space. Therefore, implementing a standard medical language to ensure clinical decision making can be achieved at the point-of-care can contribute to end-user understanding within the health care space.

     Yes, I believe health information systems can have varying degrees of success based on organizational needs. For example, some Electronic health records (EHR) have system modules the require EHR integration system wide. However, system functionality can still be achieved with the use of only one module component. In any case, system integration and organizational interoperability would provide better results within the system by utilizing end-user input for system design.

The importance of understanding end-user needs is that the providers will be using the service on a daily basis to diagnose, prescribe, and communicate with patients and various departments within the hospital or clinical setting. According to the article, provider needs can be shared in three categories of needs: need for achievement, need for affiliation, and need for autonomy (Karimia, 2015). This creates a correlation between the health information system and clinicians by building a trust that providers will be able to use the system to their fullest ability.

When designing, health information systems, a company should remember that providers are constantly trying to improve the efficiency both on the financial and patient aspect of care. The designs should be simple enough that training and educating new associates or potential clients does not take a lot of time or resources. This helps with the most important expectation of end-users which is how easy is it to use and how efficient will it be for my practice or healthcare facility. In the article it also mentions that "clinicians needs are directly related to clinician expectations" (Kariamia, 2015) which can be met by providing high quality and performance system that providers feel comfortable and trustworthy using. Especially now in an environment where technology is used in every aspect, having trust in a system that will keep patient and hospital information secure is a top priority. 

In my opinion, no, health information systems would not be successful without the input from end-users. Medical professionals require the correct tools that are tailored to their specific specialty and workflow to give their patients the best care that is possible. A comparison for this question would be a baseball bat manufacturing company creating baseball bats with out talking to actual baseball players about what they like or is best for their game. Going in blind to a health information system without speaking to the providers and clinicians that use them on a daily basis is a for sure way of risking confidential patient information.

I understand that end-user experiences are vital for the development of information systems, programs, and other soft tools applied when managing healthcare facilities. Other than the users, the other side to consider is the advancement of the platforms. According to Unni (2017), some systems could be challenging to use but have some of the best designs to manage the system. My opinion on this is the continued development that every organization should have. Having the first few programs does not mean the end of development for these healthcare facilities. This means the developers can still rely on the responses and feedback from the users on what to change, what suits them, and what to do away with. This will give the right idea of how to do the development.
