The Impact of Anxiety on Leadership Decisions
Leaders must be able to manage the constantly evolving world of technology and the workplace in the knowledge economy. As such, the workplace anxiety issue has become increasingly relevant. In the article “The Anxiety of Learning,” Coutu analyzes how psychological safety, learning Anxiety, and survival anxiety all contribute to the general success of workers and organizations. In this essay, I will discuss whether or not these anxieties should influence leadership decisions and why.
I believe that psychological safety, learning Anxiety, and survival anxiety should all be considered when making leadership choices. Any form of Anxiety can significantly impact an employee's performance and output, so executives must make sure that their staff members feel secure and supported. Leaders should make choices that put their team members' psychological health first and foster a culture that encourages learning and development.
Survival Anxiety is the fear of not having the resources to cope with change (Coutu, 2002). Leaders who suffer from this kind of Anxiety may be reluctant to take chances or make adjustments, as they may believe they lack the abilities, information, or resources to make the best choices. This type of Anxiety can harm leadership decisions, as it may make it difficult for leaders to take risks or step outside of their comfort zones, which can harm their choices.
