The Unit 9 Assignment involves reviewing how resistance to change can be effectively managed within an organization. A company’s competitive advantage relies on its ability to quickly adapt to changes in both the internal and external environments. Managers that are adept at guiding the change process will have the ability to shape the organizational strategy overall. However, change is often difficult for individuals, so a keen understanding of techniques available to manage resistance is necessary for any manager. Prior to working on the assignment, consider completing the following learning activity as it will prepare you to address the assignment requirements. Using the material from Chapter 15 of the text as well as your own independent research, you will develop a plan to manage resistance to change based on the scenario below. Scenario: PG Industries (PGI) is a relatively new company that began producing computer chips and other parts used in cars after the slowdown from overseas suppliers. The president of PGI has tasked you as the director of training with her top priority, drafting a new quality control training program for this manufacturing company to ensure better quality products and service across several company teams —procurement, distribution, and customer service. You propose the training program to senior management of the three teams but the director of the customer service department is not convinced this affects their department. This resistance to acceptance and adoption of the new training program is beginning to cause the other two departments’ senior managers to question the efficacy of such a training program. You know that without the support of even one of the three departments, the initiative is not likely to succeed. You realize that this initiative is important to the president of PGI, and you need to plan and prioritize how you will succeed as the leader to manage this change.

Managing Change Student Name Purdue University Global Course # and name Instructor Date Unit 9 Assignment Introduction The only constant in modern organizations is change. The need to adapt and adopt innovations for the development of companies means that change will occur often. To management, it may be an exciting venture that sees the company reach the maximum heights in its field, while just like the director of the customer service department at PG Industries, for employees is an upsetting and scary endeavor that could lead to loss of jobs. Thus, maintaining a habit is considered easier than implementing changes, resulting in resistance to change. Achieving a successful transformation requires prudent handling of the varying perceptions of change through communication and education, recognizing and dealing with resistance, involving the leaders and offering support and resources to deal with resistance to change. Effective Ways to Manage Resistance to Change Communication and education are the initial methods of managing resistance to quality control training (Bateman & Konopaske, 2022, p.27). Communication and education are the best ways of informing all team members about the change process. It tells them what is going on and why the change is needed and provides adequate information on how they will contribute to the change process. It is vital to employ various communication methods to pass the message. One of the methods to use is one-on-one briefing. One-on-one meetings with the director of customer service would be valuable in passing along meaningful information in detail, mainly focusing on its value to the company and their role in the training (Pearce, 2007, p. 25). For example, how the quality control training will help the company make a great impression in the market by only producing quality products and as the face of the company, the customer service department is a crucial participant. The communication method would also facilitate receipt of personalized feedback, raising concerns and challenges in adopting this training without feeling uncomfortable. Another communication method would be a formal training meeting with the three directors of the concerned departments. It would encompass sharing pertinent information about the training, enumerating its mission and my vision towards making it the most crucial and effective training tool the company will need to prod...
