I have had an opportunity to work in different organizations, and unfortunately, I have seen leaders abuse their power and social influence. One memorable workplace team situation involved a senior manager, John, who abused his position and social influence. John was our department head and made many decisions. He regularly leveraged his position for personal gain rather than team goals. He gave project assignments based on personal favoritism rather than competence and expertise, which made several team members feel unfairly treated. This apparent power abuse lowers team morale and trust, creating a hostile workplace (Snow et al., 2021). John's actions caused widespread harm. Team members with good relationships with him were under pressure to perform, which exacerbated their stress.
