The Hound of the Baskervilles is a novel that was written and compiled by a British writer, Arthur Conan Doyle during the early 20th century. Despite its difficulty to follow it, its weirdness in various climactic incidences makes it an interesting prose with a lot of unanswered questions and suspense. It revolves mainly around a non-defined creature whose role is to hound the Baskerville lineage. The creature killed Charles Baskerville, but what the media are reporting is that Charles died out of heart attack. His doctor, Mortimer reveals this to Sherlock Holmes, and finally the news of an unknown creature killing Baskervilles spread through the area. The story is rich in thematic information as it reflects certain occurrences within the contemporary society; among them is the theme of evil and supernatural beliefs.
Some members or some supernatural beings describe evil, in a society, as unacceptable deadly behaviors. In the story, evil comes from an unknown being. Mr. Charles Baskerville is found lying dead in some of his trees in his home at his home in London. Nobody comprehends the cause of his death other than his doctor, Mortimer who believes that the deceased was murdered by an unknown creature with footsteps like that of a giant dog. Mortimer reads the manuscript to Holmes. He says, “I have in my pocket a manuscript” (Doyle, 1902), and goes ahead to read it revealing the untold story concerning the mysterious death of Charles. The doctor thinks and believes that a supernatural evil being murdered his client.
