Based on the lecture, class discussion and the story “I ran 4 experiments to break my social media addiction,’’ https://hbr.org/2018/10/i-ran-4-experiments-to-break-my-social-media-addiction-heres-what-worked write a two-page paper on your own social media habits. How do you use social media? (I use snapchat and Instagram to share posts and talk with my friends they are the only 2 apps I use and whatsapp is for university only ) Is it to stay connected with friends?(yes) Spend time seeing what other people are doing?(yes sometimes I spend time to watch some videos or watch bloggers who visit new places like cafes and resturants) Have you ever taken a selfie knowing you wanted to post it to social media? (I don’t like posting selfies )Have you ever retaken a selfie because you didn’t like the way the first picture looked? (no because I don’t take selfies )
Have you ever felt some of the negative effects from social media? Have you ever tried to cut back your use of social media? (social media is filled with negative effects and people judging each other based on what they see yes I have tried to take a break from social media like social media detox )
As you reflect on your use of social media, do you think the person who represents you on social media is different in some ways than the way you see yourself?(no I am the same person who is on social media and real life ) Do you think that other people present one version of themselves on social media but are different in real life? Social media has taken over global social communications. Through social media, people can communicate freely anywhere in the world, discussing a range of political, economic, and social issues. For example, the recently completed US elections excited debates globally, and social media enabled people to engage in the different arguments. It also enabled people from other places to follow the social and political unfolding in the US during the campaign and post-campaign period. This shows that there is an increase in social media consumption because of its importance. This essay presents an analysis and reflection of my social media consumption.
I am a regular social media consumer using Snapchat and Instagram only, though my WhatsApp is active exclusively for university communication. Snapchat and Instagram allow me to communicate with my friends through the posts I share and private communications. I love Instagram and Snapchat because they give adequate room for visual communication. I am not a fan of taking selfies, but I contribute to different discussions on my friends’ public picture posts. The discussions give me an avenue to expand my knowledge besides boosting my mood through the fan in it. I prefer Instagram and Snapchat to other social media sites because they are easy in targeting and retargeting audience. This means that I can easily avoid disturbing business adverts that interfere with my social media use.
I spend most of my time on social media connecting with friends. However, I also use it to enrich my knowledge by consuming content from bloggers and other content creators.
