The Verizon communication or wireless organization began its operation in the year 2000. This was due amalgamating with another organization known as Bell Atlantic and GTE mobiles. There earlier the bell Atlantic organization had had interests in another company called UK-based Air Touch Plc due a bid of a large amount of money. This did not go through as the Verizon wireless owned a bigger share in the Bell Atlantic. The Verizon wireless organization grew to be the largest network operator in the United States of America as it continued to merge and buying of more mobile companies. It maintained that position over a continued period of time as it acquired more companies such as Alltel in the year 2009. In the same year of 2009 AT&T announced an agreement to sell Centennial Wireless services in Louisiana and Mississippi to Verizon wireless. Currently Verizon communications or wireless is the second largest network operator in the United States (Paul, 2009).
Project Management, Operations Management and Information Systems Management
Project management is an area which is concerned with planning, organizing, and motivatingand controlling organization`s resources to attain certain objectives. A project it is an endeavor which involve a specified start and end done to attain a particular goals and objectives. This target to bring forth a significant change or added value. In project management faces a major challenge of ensuring that all project objectives are attained respecting all the constrains predicted before. Such major constrains predicted may include scope, time, quality and budget plans. Also other challenge is to maximize the distribution of important inputs and to incorporate them in attaining set objectives (Menor, 2012).
Operation management it`s a field where management looks after, designs and controls function of production and redesigning activities of the business in producing goods and services. Ensure that the business activities are efficient in terms of utilizing limited resources and effective in terms of satisfying customers` needs. It utilizes inputs to produce outputs in form of goods and services.
A management information system (MIS) gives information to the organization which enables it to operate and manage appropriately. It is typically a computer system which is used to handle technology, people and data. MIS is not the same with other information systems as it involves are used to analyze and facilitate strategic and operational activities. The information given is utilized in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of decision making.
Managers of organizations face challenges in managing the organization. This is which needs a solution to ensure that the objectives and goals of organizationis achieved effectively and efficiently. The major challenge faced is the managing or controlling of employees in their undertakings on daily basis. For the success of the organization the employee factor is highly essential. A well organized plan is needed to curb this challenge to ensure that the employees devote towards the success of the organization. The plan is expected to cover project management, operation management and information systems so that the identified challenge or problem is meet and to increase the organizational performance. The manager faces the challenge of organizing the employees in their positions of work. Where the manager fails may mean that he lacks experience to handle the employees in the organization.
Proposed Plan to meet the challenge
A comprehensive plan is needed to be put in place to deal with inability of the manager to control the employees. This involves developing a step-to-step guides on how the employees will operate within their positions of working. The manager being virtual team worker sometimes he needs to set-up right everything so that much of his work remains self-managing. The following areas are improved to meet the challenge and increase organizational performance.
Management of goals
This pertains setting goals and objectives clearly which are important to the organization. This describes goals and objectives well to make them understandable to the employees. All the expectations and how each employees is required to do is stated. Also goal statements are included.
Team incentives
Team incentives mostly vary from individual basic pay, allowances, bonuses and any other additional income awarded by their team managers. The better the incentive awarded to each participant the harder the participant will work. This means that the prosperity of the project is directly dependent on the income of the participants. For this reason, Verizonwireless has made it a priority to satisfy the financial demands of the team players and thus increase the chances of better project results. Several methods have been created to increase incentives of the team players and these methods vary from project to project. Another important thing is to ensure there are clearly defined and documented contracts which outline the type of incentives, their amount and their occurrence so as to enhance trust in the organization; this will also minimize the possibility or disagreement.
Manage communications
Communication is the main tool for linking the employees and the manager. Unless the communication is effected the managing of the employees is very difficult. The manager has to communicate to employees to ensure the running of the organization is highly is improved. The methods the manager uses to communicate to employees should well understand by the employees. It has to be simple to ensure that no barriers in communicating. The choice of method of communication should be appropriate in that where face-to-face is supposed to used no other method should be used. This promotes the communication within the organization. It ensures that the manager communicates ideas and other important issues to the employees. Where inappropriate channel of communication is used it risks the performance of the organization.
