8 - 10 page paper (double spaced, 12pt serif-font, 1” margins) on an issue related to the global
food systems, which you may approach within the field of your choice (ie: economics, history,
sociology, journalism). This paper may be an expansion of your Commodities research, but is
expected to offer deeper narrative and analysis of contemporary issues surrounding the
commodity. In order to ensure timely completion, there will be interim deadlines for components
of the paper:
1. Paper Topic Proposal (2/20/19) > A paragraph (100 – 200 words) description of the
chosen topic and research plan.
2. Outline and Bibliography (4/3/19) > Outline of proposed argument and a tentative
bibliography that includes at least five academic sources.
3. First Draft Peer Review (4/24/19) > The first draft does not have to be complete, but
the more you have, the better the feedback you will receive.
4. Final Draft (5/8/19) > Due by 5pm on Wednesday, May 8th. (Last day of class)
You will also be responsible for a 5-minute presentation on your paper in-class on May 10th.
This presentation will need to include 3-slides and address the following main questions in a
clear, concise and confident manner:
1. Slide 1: WHY did you choose this topic?
2. Slide 2: WHAT are your findings?
3. Slide 3: SO WHAT – why should we care?
(What are the larger implications / How is this relevant to the study of food and
nutrition in a global context and to the academic community).
AND for this time, we just do the number 2.

In this article, it is clearly written that among the so many goods exported to developed countries are garments, electronics, food, toys, shoes, automobiles, and athletic equipment. The role of farmers is that they directly or indirectly contribute to the manufacturing or making of these items. It is very unfortunate that they are not provided with enough facilities. More specifically, they are urged to depend on traditional farming practices and unproven farming models. Eventually, this causes a lot of problems for farmers, their families, and the whole society. The researcher got the inspiration for this study from Lee's book titled Gender and the South China Miracle: Two Worlds of Factory Women.

In April 2014, Steven Greenhouse published an article titled In Florida Tomato Fields, a Penny Buys Progress in which it is clearly mentioned that abusive practices of farming should be replaced with what is up to the mark and according to the demands and requirements of farmers. It is a common observation that neither farmers nor their families are provided with enough facilities, and this impacts the economy of a country to an extent. There is, thus, a strong need to educate them and to encourage them to work hard while implementing the farming techniques they like the most. Agreements between growers and retailers should be signed in this regard.
