In Lutz’s article, he wanted to convey the current state of how things are being rationalized in contemporary American society. He said that today, we tend to hide, evade, or mislead our listeners and audience in order to make everything seem ‘under control’ and ‘optimistic’ (Lutz, n.d.). Perhaps, one of the examples that can easily be remembered in his article is the part where a company has “laid-off†500 people in their headquarters. However, instead of saying ‘laid-off’, the company preferred to use the term ‘managing our staff resources.’ He said that by using the words ‘managing’ instead ‘laying-off’, the company was able to turn the bad reputation approaching them back on its tail.
