While in the last course of my university, in the fall of 2022, I was fortunate to find placement as an intern at the brand Vivienne Hu. The company notified my school’s design teacher of my acceptance into their internship program via email. I was happy to receive the news since I had a vacant internship experience in my class schedule. I promptly sent my resume and portfolio to the school’s recruitment email contact and awaited further instructions. The notification came a week later: I had been selected to serve as an intern in the company’s marketing department. I was eager to know what my duties entailed and I therefore inquired about the nature of the work and the working hours from my superior. My investigation revealed that Vivienne Hu was a fashion company that specialized in shoes, apparel, and beauty products. The company’s media department was responsible for marketing the company’s products and maintaining the website on a daily basis.
I learnt that my role as an intern in the marketing department would involve promoting Vivienne Hu’s shoes and skin care products. The marketing department was also responsible for photo shooting new products, although my primary responsibilities revolved around blog editing. I had already acquired some fundamental knowledge of marketing from my time as a student in fashion design. However, my knowledge of blogs was limited and I therefore found my internship responsibilities a bit intimidating. English is my second language and as a non-native speaker, blog editing was one of the biggest but most important challenges. As a blog editor, I was responsible for accurately and convincingly describing local products in English. My internship job required me to market the company’s products in a convincing manner and in fluent English so that readers would want to buy them. I started looking for interesting copyright content and tried to learn some effective writing techniques on major marketing websites like buzzfeed and pinterest.
I was interested in content or posts with a large number of views or likes: this content gave me some useful ideas of how to create attractive and interesting descriptions when marketing the company’s products.
