A McKinsey survey from June 2021 revealed that about 52% of employees in the United States practice flexible working (Ratican, Antenucci and Ratican, 2021). The employees can work from home at least occasionally, significantly higher than the pre-pandemic rate. This has shifted immensely, changing the fabric of business operations, and has, over time, enhanced the work-from-home culture in different businesses. Initially, remote work was forced through by circumstances. However, the current world has seen it as an essential activity in many organizations, resulting in debates on the consequences of this type of work on productivity. Remote work's effect is summarized in different opinions, with some focusing on positive factors while others focus on the negative factors that come with it. Telecommuting has provoked various effects on employees' productivity as it benefits them through flexibility and autonomy to work from any location. It also brings challenges, such as issues in communication, work-life balance, and collaboration. Increased Flexibility and Autonomy One benefit of working from home is that employees have more freedom and control. Contrary to the usual workplace circumstances, remote work means a person can work in the place of their choice and at a convenient time. The shift allows employees to structure their working day based on their flows and tasks: morning productivity, attending to personal issues during the workday, or working in spaces that would help them brainstorm.
