According to “Our Energy Challenge,” by Bill McKibben, the expansion of the economy affects our environment. The industrial revolution began in the 18th century. It was marked by intensified use of machinery. The machines were powered by energy from fossil fuels such as coal. The energy was considered essential in the growth of the economy as it made machines to operate and generate more output than would be generated through human labor.
