Develop a Project Schedule

Essay Instructions:
1.Review the activities list and network diagram you created earlier. 2.Estimate the duration of all work while considering the following inputs: ◾Information on availability of resources ◾Organization calendars (when resources are available) ◾Project constraints and assumptions ◾Identified holidays, vacations, and such 3.Schedule the work in two ways: PERT/CPM and Gantt chart. Be sure to document significant considerations from Step 2 that are not clearly accounted for in the schedule itself (for example, constraints and assumptions).

Project Schedule for Building an Independent Living Unit Over 2 Acres Land
Abstract
The aim of this project is to build an independent living unit on 2 acres of land, in Illinois. The project will commence on 10th August 2013 and the first deliverables are expected to be completed by 15th December 2013. In scheduling this project, a number of assumptions are made and some allowance given for absenteeism (leave).
To get the duration of each activity in this initial part of the project, the PERT method is used. The critical path method is used to estimate the duration of the entire project. Considering the allowance for leave, time for the entire project is calculated. The time may either fall within the timeframe or go beyond it. If the time calculated through the critical path method goes beyond 15th of December 2013, management might be required to make some adjustments.
Assumptions made in the project
Total leave duration for all workers is 12 weeks
Apart from leave, people work continuously to the end of the project
Project starts on 10th august 2013 as planned
3. Time calculations
Since this project involves several people, estimation of time can be difficult. Luckily, the use of PERT (Program evaluation and review technique) makes the work easier. Considering all the constraints and assumptions highlighted above, we can now calculate the time for each activity. The first deliverables must be cleared by 15th December 2013. This is approximately 4 months for this project
Excavation of the foundation
Most optimistic time-4 days
Most pessimistic time-14 days
Most likely-8 days
Using the PERT formula, Expected time (E) = (4+4*8+14)/6=8 DAYS
Obtaining permits from the local government
Most optimistic-7 days
Most pessimistic-14 days
Most likely-10 days
E=10 DAYS
Preparation of the architectural blueprint
Most optimistic-35 days
Most pessimistic-45 days
Most likely-40 days
E=40DAYS
Approval of the blueprint
Most optimistic-60 days
Most pessimistic-78 days
Most likely-75 days
E=73DAYS
Site inspection
Most optimistic-2 days
Most pessimistic-5 days
Most likely-4 days
E=3 DAYS
