The Discourse on the Method is one of the most influential works of philosophy, mostly affecting the course of the natural sciences and the modern philosophy. The piece is divided into six parts in which he indulges the readers with insightful thoughts ranging from science, the method of achieving knowledge, maxims on the methods applicability, proving God exists, physics and the applicability of the methods as presented in the book (Descartes, 2012).
In the sixth part of the piece, points to the facts that made it hard for him to publish his works in a timely manner despite the fact that he had been completed the piece a lot earlier. It is quite surprising that he felt that his work would arouse too much controversy that he could not handle. This is mostly related to the principles in physics (Descartes, 2012). He had planned to have the works published when he was dead, so would have time work on his discoveries without interruptions. In the piece, however he dwells on the existence of God and the soul.
At the time of the publishing, scientific discoveries were largely objected relative to the religious beliefs at the time and the amount of influence that the church had in the state govenance and more so on law enforcement.
