Choices are given to people in many different ways, and they could be subjective or objective. These choices are what make people today since their presence is the result of their decisions in the past. Nevertheless, determining the right choices is extremely hard as there are various possibilities for every decision. Like how the main character of the story, Francis, goes for a path of choices, consequences inevitably face him.
The Country Husband
John Cheever, an infamous writer of short stories, brought back many plaques upon his publication. One of his most well-known stories would be The Country Husband, published last 1954, which then belonged to his publicized collection of short stories titled The Housebreaker of Shady Hill last 1958. Gaining its subject from the title itself, it was composed of various short stories reflecting life in Shady Hill. While despite that, the short story title The Country Husband gained fame and was even recognized for an award, the 1956 O. Henry Award (Gale, 2016).
The Country Husband was a short story that circulated the life of Francis Weed, where he was designated with various choices in life, which in return, greatly affected his life. The story started with how Francis wanted to express his disbelief about his plane experience but was never given a chance to. As a result, Francis started to have a disarray of thoughts and started to take paths that he had never gone before. Continuing from his rebellious phase, Francis ended up suffering from his choices in various ways, which affected not only him but also his family (Cheever, 1981).
Choices
Costa et al. (2019) presented that people make decisions affected by several factors that are unnecessary for the problem itself. This implies that people tend to be easily affected by various reasons, regardless of its relevance to the problem itself. Even in life, unknowingly, people decide from the given choices as an unknown factor is influencing them. The same situation is identical to the life of Francis Weed, wherein what he only wanted was to find meaning in his life; his choices were bound because of irrelevant reasons.
