Summary of the Film
This work focuses on "I Am Not Your Negro" a film directed by Raoul Peck. The film is established on James Balwin's unfinished manuscript known as "Rember This House." Balwin's book was to be a revolutionary, individual account describing the lives and assassinations of three iconic figures in human history and his close friends: Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers (Peck, 2016). At the time of death in 1987, Baldwin had only written 30 completed pages of his manuscript. Therefore, in this film, Peck envisions Baldwin's work, which he never finished.
This film examines the work and life of Balwin, a renowned African American writer and activist. His account provides a searing critique of race relations in both traditional and modern America, the existing struggle for civil rights, and the issue of white supremacy. I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO is a journey into the African American history that aligns the past of the Civil Rights movement to the current of #BlackLivesMatter (Peck, 2016). Written in an era that spans from the mid-20th century to the present day, the film questions black depiction in Hollywood and beyond and confronts the strong relationships between the lives and assassinations of the previous prominent leaders.

Based on the film, the creator identifies the pervasive issue of racial inequality and discrimination in America, which primarily affects black people but has larger implications in American society (Peck, 2016).
