Tilly’s Theory of State Making
Tilly established a theory to explain how states form, what governments do to rule, and how to remain in authority over their citizens. In his theory, he examined how stated deal with their enemies, within and outside the borders. Mostly, they are exterminated, neutralized, and forced into submission. According to Tilly (1985), the fear engulfing them keeps them from interrupting a government and remaining loyal to its ideologies. State agents carry out four various activities; war-making, state-making, state protection, and extraction. War-making and state-making deal with the enemies out and within the borders. Protection is fighting against the enemies to a country’s allies. Extraction is the strategy they seek to execute the first three.
