One thing that comes out after reading the article is that it is easy for Western mothers to let their kids give up than Chinese mothers. Children are beautiful beings but will throw tantrums and even be sad when they do not win or when they fail in a test or fail to ride a bicycle like their friends. While this might seem like a small thing to an adult, it is a big deal to the child. However, it will be easier for a Western mother to indulge the child and even lure him/her into doing something else. As per the article, a Chinese mother, on the other hand, will expect nothing short of victory and will hence pressure the child to repeat and get it right. It might seem like a bit harsh but from the article, it does lead to positive results. From the article, “tenacious practice, practice, practice is crucial for excellence.” What Chua did with her daughter is a testament to the statement above. Apparently, she made Lulu (her daughter) repeat her piano piece until she perfected it. Even when Lulu could not get the rhythm right, she continued to push her and finally she did manage to play the piece.
