Los Angeles is the most popular city in the United States and its one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Los Angeles is the major center for entertainment; the city is also famous for its diverse economy and a broad range of professional and cultural artifacts. Some of the cultural aspects of this great city are public art and sculptures that make the city come alive for both residents and visitors. If you’ve ever gazed with wonder at a beautiful structure, then you can't miss admiring the Fort Moore Pioneer Monument located at the west side on Cesar Chavez Avenue (The public art Archive, n.d.).
This artwork is a notable feature of a memorial designed by German-based sculptor, Henry Kreis. The large monument has several elements, including a concrete pylon with a terra –cotta base relief eagle in front of the pylon. There is a flagpole with a low wall comprising of a four –base relief scenes. At the center of the monument a brick facade that served as a backdrop for a waterfall. To the left, one can see a beautifully designed terracotta base mural panel. This terracotta art wall is the only public artwork in Los angles that portrays a historical event which is placed at the actual site where the event occurred. The public art Archive (n.d.).
The wall depicts a ceremonial flag raised over the fort of Moore after the Mexican –American war. The monument also includes pictures of American soldiers raising the American flag with a series of flanking vignette that shows different scenes like orange groves, cattle ranching, water and power systems.
