Identify 3 barriers to medication adherence.
There are several barriers that can influence the way a patient adheres to medication. Failing to adhere to the provided medication has negative consequences for the patients and all those who interact with them. In the Video, Jeremiah Valentine was faced with several challenges that acted as obstacles to the trends he had for taking his medication. Some of the barriers experienced here include:
* Lack of motivation
The nurses/the medical practitioners were not always available to motivate him and help him adhere to the provided medication. When the patients are left on their own they feel neglected and this greatly affects the way they take their medication
Solution
Patients who complain of being too tired or not having time to exercise, should be encouraged to do so gradually. The nurses should be available to the patients to motivate them and remind them on how and when they should take their medication.
* Poor communication
Poor communication is also one of the barriers to medication as improper information is passed to the patient which may in turn affect the way such a patient takes his/her medication. When Jeremiah Valentine complained of pain, he was given drugs of which he did not understand the procedure involved when taking the medication. He then took more aspirin which did not help in solving the problem as desired.
