Nurses are very influential when it comes to the health of a patient. They heavily influence both the quality of care provided and the safety of the patients. The work of providing healthcare to the patients can be quite challenging and the nurses are always faced with a number of challenges in the course of providing healthcare services. There is need to ensure that the problems faced by nurses are completely eliminated so as to help them provide quality healthcare services to their patients (DeMichelle, & Gaffney, 2005). This paper aims at examining the problems faced by nurses in the course of their duty and how such problems can be eliminated.
One of the most common problems faced by nurses in the course of their duties is insomnia which is caused by prolonged periods of work without rest. This problem comes about as a result of insufficient staff in most healthcare facilities. Some nurses choose to work for long hours so that they can be able to get more income while others are forced by circumstances to work for the long hours. Either way, both are unpleasant and lead to reduced quality of services among different medical practitioners. When a nurse is tired, he/she tends to be inaccurate and can make wrong diagnosis which can even result to the death of the patients being attended to (Kellerman, 2007).
