Pink described autonomy as creating a suitable working environment for workers with little to no strict control. He has described it as a result-oriented working environment concerned with results only, and works are not bound to any procedural requirements (Pink, 2011). The problem with its implementation in the construction industry is the nature of work. The construction industry has challenging working conditions where workers' safety is one of the management's prime concerns. It has been found that there is a conflict in workplace autonomy and safety (Grote, 2020). The imposition of some safety standards will require the management to exercise a certain degree of control. The tasks that have to be completed during the later stages of the project will be delayed. The nature of work in the construction industry does not have room for autonomy, as Pink described. The worker's safety and the efficiency of the project will be suffered by implementing that paradigm.
