Reentry Programs for Drug Offenders Student Name Program Name or Degree Name (e.g., Master of Science in Nursing), Walden University COURSE XX: Title of Course Instructor Name Month XX, 202X Reentry Programs for Drug Offenders Introduction Due to the high rate of recidivism among this group, parole officers who are supposed to help drug convicts get back into society face many problems. Therefore, this means that parole officers must study and comprehend enhanced reentry programs that have been empirically proven to be effective in handling the multifaceted needs of drug offenders (Nur & Nguyen, 2023). Drug-related criminals usually encounter various challenges when trying to reenter society. As a result, this makes them more susceptible and likely to commit another crime (Mathlin et al., 2022). Therefore, based on this argument, this excerpt will explore drug offenders’ recidivism rates. Besides, the paper will consider and discuss three successful reentry programs that are likely to meet these offenders’ specific needs. Finally, upon close examination of these programs, we will consider which program best suits our agency. Overview of Recidivism Rates for Drug Offenders Studies show drug offenders are more likely to commit crimes again than other offenders who were involved in other crimes (Yukhnenko et al., 2020). As a result, this means that it is difficult for these individuals to successfully return to society. This is due to them using drugs of all types and the basic social factors that lead to criminality. Nur & Nguyen's (2023) research shows that the recidivism rate for these particular offenders is likely to change because of various factors especially the type of drug crime, the severity of the crime, and the assistance accorded to the offender during the reintegration phase. According to Yukhnenko et al. (2023)’s projection, approximately 68% of drug offenders end up being jailed within three years of their release. Additionally, 47% of these offenders also commit other crimes hence leading to their re-arrest (Yukhnenko et al., 2023). Therefore, there is an urgent need to have comprehensive reintegration programs that can successfully solve this cycle of drug-related felonious behavior use of its commonality. Mathlin et al. (2022) say that the high reoffending rate of drug offender remains to be a significant issue in the criminal justice system. Therefore, this calls for long-lasting solutions to this concern. People usually get caught up in drugs crime for various reasons. People who commit crimes more than once are considered to be drug abusers and are likely to suffer from mental health problems (Yukhnenko et al., 2020). Also, not having many options for schooling, decent housing, and well-paying jobs after release could make it harder for people to rejoin society smoothly. People who are locked up over and over again keep committing crimes, which puts much stress on both the criminal justice system and the community as a whole. So, parole officers and organizations need to put money into reentry programs that are based on evidence and are designed to meet the special needs of drug offenders (Sirdifield et al., 2020). Three Successful Reentry Programs for Drug Offenders Community-Based Programs Yukhnenko et al. (2023) say that a community-based program helps drug criminals build strong support networks in society while they are reentering society. Priority one for these programs is giving offenders job training while in jail. This gives drug offenders the skills and tools they need to get stable work when they get out of jail. (Nur & Nguyen, 2023) These programs usually give drug offenders professional and vocational training that prepares them for work. Because monitoring alone is insufficient for successful reintegration, this strategy works with local community groups, businesses, and aid groups to provide a complete plan. People who are involved go through drug addiction therapy, mental health therapy, and vocational training. All of these aim to get to the root reasons for their criminal behavior (Moore et al., 2020). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Program Cognitive behavioral treatment...
