This reflection assesses the amount of consideration that should be given to a person’s background or life circumstances when decisions are made at critical points in the criminal justice system. Decisions on aspects such as arrest, specific charges, decision to prosecute, sentencing, and re-entry plan normally make considerations into various offender characteristics. The principal objective behind assessing the backgrounds is to help with avenues of rehabilitating the offenders, punishing them, and protecting society effectively (Gohara, 2018).
