Nurse Informaticist in SDLC
Having the required technologies in healthcare settings is vital in steering the facilities toward providing the ultimate services to their patients. Presently, healthcare organizations depend on the efficiency triggered through technological advancements (Aiken et al., 2020). To achieve such efficiency, the facilities require the input of various professionals. Nurse informaticists are among the most vital professionals in the development and implementation of technologies like health information systems in healthcare facilities. That is because the technological advancements in such aspects require an insightful combination of expertise in healthcare as well as an extensive understanding of informatics (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). To that extent, a graduate-level nurse informaticist inputs are needed in various steps of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) when it comes to the effective implementation of HIT systems.
Review of the SDLC
SDLC is a framework that provides a structure for developing and implementing information systems. SDLC bears key steps that demand consideration for an effective implementation of the systems. The first step in the cycle is planning and requirements definition in which the stakeholders define the project goals, analyze the stakeholder groups, conduct the needs assessment, and outline the functional requirements (Staggers & McHugh, 2020). The second step is analysis in which the stakeholders of the project evaluate the existing systems thereby understanding the current processes as well as exploring opportunities for improvement. The third step involves designing the new system architecture, functionalities, and data structures (Aiken et al., 2020). The fourth step in the cycle is development in which the system is developed based on the design specifications. The next step is system testing in which the system is evaluated in terms of usability, functionality, and performance (Dijkstra et al., 2021). The final steps include implementation and post-implementation support in which the systems are deployed, users are trained and ongoing maintenance and support are offered. Following all the above steps is vital to impleme...
