The articles reviewed in this paper are “The Ethics of Recruiting Foreign Nurses” by Bridget Carney and “Nursing Shortage Creates Debate between Importing Foreign Nurses or Improving US Conditions”. These two articles are aimed at addressing the shortage of the nurses in the United States of America and at same time the effects of introducing foreign nurses in the country.
“The Ethics of Recruiting Foreign Nurses” by Bridget Carney, discuses on some of the shortage of the nurse in the United States of America. The main purpose of the author is to address some of the ethical practices that are supposed to be adhered in the process of recruiting the new nurses in the medical / health facilities. The author stresses on the importance of the recruiting of the foreign nurses into the medical facilities; in order to reduce the cases of the nurse shortage in the medical facilities (Carney, 2005).
The article basically highlights on the ethics of the recruiting of the foreign nurses in the country, Mrs. Bridget has stated that there is a current shortage of 110,707 nurses in our U.S. health organizations; she further predicts that the shortfalls will increase to 275,215 in 2015 and will further increase to 808, 416 in 2020 (Carney, 2005). The apparent shortage is as a result of the fast increase in the numbers of the ill patients and the elderly in the country; the increasing numbers are also said to surpass the numbers of the nurses’ in the country. In addition, the article highlights on some that the causes of the nurse shortage in America, which include the increasing numbers of the aging nurses in the health facilities and the reduction of the numbers of the Americans undertaking nursing courses. She also indicates that there is need to use adequate ethical practices when recruiting the foreign nurses into the country; this is because the nurses who are recruited from the foreign countries leave a great gap and also poses medical risks in the devel...
