Macronutrients are the essential nutrients that a person requires in large amounts to provide the energy needed for maintaining body function. A person obtains these nutrients after consuming different types of food. However, a person like the case of the 26-year-old woman can choose to consume the foods as whole foods or processed or refined foods. A protein is one of the macronutrients, and the paper will examine the benefits and risks of taking protein in its non-processed form compared to its refined process.
Consuming proteins as whole foods have its benefits as well the risks. The benefits include; low sugar, high fiber, heart-healthy, and loaded with essential nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. First, the whole food is naturally occurring; hence, no added sugar can help the patient cut down on calories compared to processed foods (Payette, 2021). Second, non-processed food has more vitamins and minerals, which are essential for maintaining optimum health. Third, because of no added fat, heart disease is rare. Finally, high fiber in these whole foods is important in keeping blood sugar in check.
Conversely, risks may be associated with whole foods such as infections when not cooked properly, long preparation time compared to processed foods, and not easily accessed and not tasty compared to processed foods. A case example is that of the patient; she has to go 7miles to get the whole foods from the farmers' store. Similarly, whole foods such as meat need one to cook well to avoid infection. The time required for the preparation is longer than the processed foods that a person can consume without cooking in many forms.
