LEARN L Take a moment to look back, play back your experience in your head (as a movie) and think about every detail from your experience in clinical during this week.
E Elaborate in writing what happened, what you were experiencing, in detail, (i.e.: what you thought, felt, did during the clinical learning experience?) (Two Paragraphs):After helping the patient get into his room, Ifelt relieved for having made him comfortable that he would indulge in his pass time of reading in a quiet place. However, I realized that I forgot to give the client a call bell to facilitate safety measures. At this moment, I was disappointed with myself for having forgotten such a vital task.As I reflected on the incident, I have come to appreciate the need to double check my work before leaving the client’s room .I felt that I had neglected the patients’ health because the call bell would have helped to alert me of any incidence that needed attention. Moreover, I learnt that by doing the task frequently and diligently will enable me to remember all the patients’ requirements and not to skip over even a single one. This will make the patient comfortable hence improving his health.
A Analyze – what influenced the experience, what made things happen as they did? (One Paragraph): The experience came about because of inadequate preparation on my part, and since I focused on the most immediate concern forgetting to look into all features of patient safety. Even though I still adhere to competency in nursing practice, I feel that double checking whether everything is all right helps minimizing mistakes. Moreover, being overwhelmed could have caused the situation to happen as I had a lot of work to attend on queue. Therefore, I was doing every task faster in order to cover all areas. For this reason, I came to realize that most of the patient's complications can be as a result of nurses' oversight or mistakes during their work. Therefore, I noted that it was critical for us as nurses to be vigilant in ensuring that patient's health is under watch at all times. Hence, nurses should be highly experienced when handling patients to ensure that they accord the best services necessary without omission or excuses.
