By overviewing the case of a small town, which faced severe economic downturn but the arrival of the pesticide company; Pestico employed about 4000 people mostly from 18 to 35 years. Moreover, the company invested in multiple developing projects to boost the economy. On the contrary, the company involved in unethical practices that affect fertility among young men in town. For managing those concerns, the director planned to propose active investigation and plan for regulating sustainability to offer the public with health and safety.
Investigation of Public Concerns and Stakeholders
Pesto extremely involved in the corrupted activities and did multiple settlements with inspection officers to regulate the unethical operations smoothly. After identifying the emerging concerns of infertility in town, people raised questions against the firm for not adopting health and safety measures. Therefore, the director would establish an ethical committee to investigate the case appropriately by inspecting company operations and chemicals. For the investigation, the director linked with the environmental control agencies, advocacy groups, health and safety regulatory bodies, labor rights organizations and ethical committees.
Additionally, the director appointed ethical officer for Pestico to regulate high ethical values in the firm for managing this concern. Furthermore, the director pointed out that the surveillance of public concerns involved reporting, data collection from the public, employees and company's management, data evaluation and interpretation (Rose & Copus, 2020). Depending on the identified results, the ethical committee can take responsive actions to maintain high sustainability in the environment.
Ethical Conflicts and Concerns related to the Pestico Case
In the economic depression, Pestico performed well while investing in many developmental projects and offering thousands of jobs, but the company lacks in offering health and safety concerns to the workers that led to infertility issue among young men. This case generates the worrisome situation for town's director as the company claimed that it would relocate in another town if it gained such bad publicity from people. In this case, the director faced an ethical dilemma between economic development and public safety concerns related to the Pestico operations in town. Furthermore, restrictive regulation urges the firm to move to another town, which affects the economy drastically. As per Little (2018), this complicated scenario enhanced difficulty for the director to make an effective decision to manage wealth as well as public health.
Plan to Manage Public Information through Media Platforms
By reporting this issue, people raised their voice along with the involvement of the advocacy group, which illustrated that the respective firm already involved in more than 100 settlements over 25 years. People are initially less aware of the facts because Pestico cleared all its inspections on unfair terms.
