Pro Alpha-adrenergic Agonist

Essay Instructions:
Please consider the medications and point of view based on Alpha-adrenergic Agonist. ~ present and defend your assigned stance (pro for Alpha Adrenergic Agonist drug class) and specific medication (either intuniv {guanfacine} or kapvay {clonidine} ) for your patient case study scenario with your peers. Within the debate, you will also share your perspective on why the alternative medication classes (amphetamine, methylphenidate, non-stimulant) would not be appropriate for the patient case scenario. ~ your response detailing your argument includes the following: • What is the proposed mechanism of action of the medication(s)? Why might this be appropriate for the patients? • What are the advantages or disadvantages to your class of medication (options for different administration, length of duration, etc.)? • What are the advantages or disadvantages to the other medication options? • What possible side effects or considerations need to be evaluated? • Provide one example for each consideration—legal, ethical, and social implications—for prescribing the medication category. ~ three 3 scholarly peer-reviewed resources located outside of your course learning resources, the ones I attached for help, can use but need 3 outside these. This is the patient scenario: Malcolm is a 9-year-old male in the 4th grade at the public elementary school. Malcolm has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, combined presentation. Malcolm struggles with being fidgety and hyperactive; he often gets into trouble at school for blurting out answers, getting out of his desk when he should not be, and hitting other children when upset. Malcolm also has a hard time focusing on anything other than video games at home. His parents report homework takes “all night” though it should only take 30 minutes. Malcolm has assigned chores but often gets distracted. For example, Malcolm was to take out the trash but got distracted in the driveway while taking out the trash and left the full bag in the driveway. He often misplaces the combination code for the lock on the house door.

Pro Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist Student’s Name Institution Course Instructor Date Pro Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist What Is the Proposed Mechanism of Action of The Medication(S)? Why Might This Be Appropriate for The Patients? Guanfacine and clonidine are alpha-adrenergic agonists. As such, they target the alpha-2A receptors located in the prefrontal cortex. Therefore, they increase concentrations of the neural volatile noradrenergic activity and improve ways of tackling attention and all other behaviors (Wolraich et al., 2019). This mechanism is particularly suitable for a 9-year-old boy called Malcolm, diagnosed with ADHD, combined type, which is manifested by hyperactivity, increased ability to act impulsively, and concentration disorder. Alpha-adrenergic agonists can manage these symptoms well because they alter neurotransmitters' release in the brain to facilitate impulse control and enhance the patient's ability to focus. What Are the Advantages or Disadvantages to Your Class of Medication (Options for Different Administration, Length of Duration, Etc.)? One benefit that could be attributed to alpha-adrenergic agonists is that they remain a non-stimulant class (Taylor & Cassagnol, 2023). They are preferred in patients with contraindications to stimulant medicines such as insomnia, loss of appetite, and others. They also have a more prolonged effect span where they do not have to be used as often as stimulants. It will enhance compliance and reduce the level of stigmatization that is related to the use of drugs (Drugs. com, 2023). However, they may cause sedation and hypotension as regular side effects. Therefore, patients need to be...
