I Intervention Nursing personnel implemented an organized medication administration protocol. C Comparison Patients getting home care infusion therapy without a set protocol. O Outcome Successfully reduced medication delays. T Timeframe Six months. PICOT Question In patients receiving home care infusion therapy (P), how does the implementation of a structured medication administration protocol (I) compared to the current varied nursing practices (C) affect the reduction of medication delays (O) within a six-month timeframe (T)? Problem Statement Medication delays within home care infusion treatment impede patient care and may compromise patient safety. Home care infusion therapy, which allows patients to receive drugs at home, has issues due to the lack of a standardized nursing practice intervention. These issues delay crucial medicine administration, affecting patient results and satisfaction (Mao et al., 2021). Prompt medication administration is vital for the best therapeutic success. Delays in home care infusion therapy can lead to inferior therapeutic outcomes, elevated symptoms, and higher healthcare expenses due to potential consequences. A survey at the practicum site found that medication delays, averaging 30 minutes for each infusion session, are common and caused by unstandardized protocols and nursing practices. Delays affect patient well-being—not just inconveniences. Slows down may reduce pharmaceutical efficacy, leading to unsatisfactory symptom management and escalated healthcare utilization for adverse events. Nursing procedures, absence of uniformity, and provider-patient communication gaps cause such delays (Dorsey et al., 2022; Bucknall et al., 2019). Healthcare provider-patient communication gaps exacerbate the problem. Mistransmission of information and drug regimen communication may result in misunderstanding and non-compliance with treatment by the patient. Consequently, home care infusion therapy must be enhanced to address these challenges. Home care infusion therapy drug delays require immediate treatment. The paper shows that delays can have adverse effects on patients and their satisfaction rates as well. Thus, there is a need for the standardization of nursing practice intervention to resolve these problems and improve the quality and safety measures of home care infusion therapy. Population Patients who receive home infusion therapy and their related demography are the population of interest. These are diverse demographics that involve chronically ill, elderly, and drug-dependent patients. It is important to know how this population functions and solves problems. Health literacy, mobility, and cognitive abilities among patients can influence medication management (Saqlain et al., 2019). If the nursing practice change is to succeed, interventions must be tailored toward these various needs. Home care infusion therapy patients are also known to b...
