Oxygenation and Physiological Needs
Maslow's hierarchy of needs is applicable in different fields, including health. According to Maslow, physiological needs are the most basic and form the foundation of the hierarchy (Hayre-Kwan et al., 2021). The main aspects of the physiological needs are health, reproduction, clothing, and shelter. As a nurse, it is essential to ensure that a patient's health is stable by meeting different thresholds such as oxygenation. Oxygenation is the passive diffusion of oxygen from the alveoli to the pulmonary capillary. However, after achieving the oxygenation needs, it is also essential to consider other priorities.
Next Priority
After meeting the oxygenation need, the next priority is Airway, Breathing, and Circulation (ABC). Airway maintenance requires adequate blood circulation and oxygen flow for normal body activities (Poirier & Devraj, 2019). Sufficient blood circulation would allow the patient to have stable health and avoid secondary illnesses such as respiratory cystic fibrosis. After the need is met, the patient can be exposed to a healthy diet for stability and normal body metabolism.
