Health Promotion Name Course Lecturer Date Good health is what everyone wishes to have all through his/her life time. Though this only sound like a wish, health debates keeps recalling, while way of providing apt methods of improving the customs of treating the sick and health promotion are discussed. These issues have continued in the nursing practices leaving several questions unreciprocated. This paper seeks to look at how health promotion is defined, the purpose of health promotion in nursing practice; how roles and responsibilities of nursing are evolved in health promotion, explain implementation methods for health promotion including all areas of nursing and finally compare the three levels of health promotion prevention. For more than a decade, health prevention and promotion has been the core focus of healthcare expertise in general and nurses in particular. There are several definitions on health promotion and prevention, but all comes up with the same meaning. For instance, according to Edelman, (2010), health promotion and prevention can be defined as a science and art of aiding people transform their lifestyles to move towards a state of most advantageous health (Pender, & Pender, 1996). In other words, this can as well be described as an approach used with an intent to increase a sense of well-living and decrease occurrence of illness that can occur to any individual regardless of the age. This has helped in lowering the costs that the patients and government would have used for cure. The purpose of health promotion in nursing practice Nurses are vital in our daily life as they play a role to promote our health. Being contiguous with the exposed population, nurse`s work as critical roles of advocates, educators, healers, and researchers throughout all the three levels of promotion and prevention. The purpose of health promotion in nursing practice can be described as one of the tools used in addressing health determinants, sophisticated in the Ottawa charter. The determinants include, amplification of community action, mounting personal skills and creating supportive environment for health, backed by health public policy. Different from other ways of doing things, actions based on health promotion dealing with issues that are controllable internally and externally among the individuals. The determinants are internal and external. While it comes to internal determinants, this includes the personal health behaviors while the external determinants included that of social economic and environmental conditions. The other fundamental purpose of this process is evident in its part in social development, more so in the factors contributing to health differences. It captures values that improve population`s well being by generating a feeling of healthy society and variety of healthy choices (Edelman & Mandle, 2006). Roles and responsibilities evolving in health promotion Medical field has experienced evolution more so in the nursing field all over the world. This happened after the health care system such as those witnessed in Hong Kong with basis on biomedical paradigm carried out reorganization to incorporate health promotion in health care providers.
