Salivary gland cancer is a rare neck condition where malignant cells occur in the salivary gland tissues. Son et al. (2018) reveal that the disease has unique clinical characteristics that comprise the presence of an asymptomatic mass. The symptoms differ from one patient to another because some may suffer from a rapidly enlarging mass and invasion of their soft tissues. Other symptoms include a restricted jaw motion or trismus, declining losses in the functionality of the nerves, prickling or burning sensation in the legs, arms, and hands, pain, and neck node enlargement (Son et al., 2018). These clinical presentations worsen as the disease progress through the stages.
Diagnosis follows different laboratory, imaging, and other approaches. For instance, Gatta et al. (2020) indicate that physical examination or observation is the primary technique used by healthcare providers since 80% of the tumors are parotid related and their probability of being benign is up to 80%.
